If anything it's iconic. Everyone knows it by its name. How many other fonts could random people on the street name? Arial? Times New Roman? Comic Sans would be up there. It's sort of like when people on here hate on your fave and you're like, "yeah, but, you still know her name, right? She's still world-famous, yeah?"
Plus people use it in an ironic way now. For example the 'doge' meme.

And it's all over tumblr. It's almost like the sarcastic font. And as such, it's beautiful. You would never use it seriously, but it's a font that communicates a message. Sarcasm. Sort of like how 'Old English' font is a font that you use when you want something to seem like it's from another century like the 1800s. Or how 70s fonts convey they're from the 70s.
At least it's legible. I can't stand some of the script fonts that just look like a bunch of scribbles.
I actually watched a video like 2 days ago on the font. It apparently wasn't originally supposed to be like...a usable font style. It was a font for some character a dog spoke in or something, but that was scrapped and the font was used for many Microsoft OS's.
