I was browsing through my Facebook timeline as I do every few months (its all about twitter now guys) and ran into this

As long as there is a "Gay and Lesbian" section on Netflix, as long as there is a national Gay day, as long as gays separate themselves from the rest of the world, they will never be treated the same. Want to be equal? Stop discriminating against yourselves.

I couldn't even believe the ignorance but I didn't want to comment and get clocked by everyone in my mostly republican town.
Has anyone had an similar experiences or do you have better friends than me? This is a super cool guy but he just doesn't understand. Please share your experiences
EDIT: here's how the rest of the comments played out. I eventually posted only to applaud "C" (I put initials so you know who said what) for what she said

Right?! Also like why is there black history month and no white history month? These minorities should stop segregating themselves if they want to be equal!

Or let them be equal? Allow them to have the same rights as you and anyone else. Let them marry who they love, because they love that person and that should be enough. If you're sick of National Gay Day and everything else, then let them be the same as you and take away their reason to have it. Equality isn't something that should be earned or wanted, equality is a right reserved for all humans because we're all human.

I'm encouraging correct equality. They should have the same rights! Isn't it freaking obvious? But they hold themselves back with things like that.

If you use that card then it is only hurting yourself. You are almost saying we are inferior so we deserve to be seen that way and treated in a higher manner.

The reason we have "Gay Pride parades" and "Black History Month" is so that persecuted minorities can feel a sense of community and belonging. Also, it brings much-deserved attention to the flawed social and political causes that we need to address in our society. So why is there Black History Month but no White History Month?? Because 11 months out of the year it IS White History Month. Because although we no longer have segregated schools or bathrooms, we still have a segregated mindset when it comes to minorities. The proof is literally everywhere. Just look at any magazine and see how even the black models are photoshopped to be lighter. Us straight white people are the majority who most likely have never been persecuted for how we look or who we love when we are born. Trust me, the gays aren't getting any special privileges over straight people. Sorry for the long response, I hope I got my point across haha.

Really? Because in mine eyes I see all humans as the same. We deserve the same. I guess in a twisted liberal mindset, continuing discrimination is a reward? My conservative beliefs show every human being is equal and deserves the same. So why treat them differently? That's wrong.
God loves everyone equally, gay, black, white, no matter what religion. So why separate humans when God doesn't?

It has nothing to do with conservative or liberal biases, it is an issue that is so deeply ingrained in our culture that we aren't even aware of it due to our privilege! Our culture and media are exposing children from birth that if they aren't straight and white, then they are "bad" and "ugly" and "lesser than" and "ashamed." Watch this video (it's 9 minutes long, but you really only have to watch the first 2 minutes to get the point) and then tell me how cultural appreciation days/months and pride parades are "discriminatory."

I don't want to get into any political conversations but thanks C for saying exactly what I was thinking. These people just want equal rights, not an equal lifestyle

It bugs me how basically everyone other than "C" supported this guy
