No tbh, in the days rap/hip-hop glorified artists who were great with lyricism and projection and the message etc. Especially with nas, common, pac & mos def. they're All superior lyricist, which made them big,
back in the day you saw them rap about the streets, their way of life, the pain and suffering and struggles that was bestowed upon them, Sure there is a niche amount of that still around but the vast majority is trash.nowadays anything and anyone can considered hip-hop/rap and be 'praised' for it when they're below par and in all honesty garbage.

I get what you are saying but...
I think there were examples of questionable lyricism back in the day as well...2 live crew, JJ fad supersonic, and a few others. I don't think majority nowadays are that bad...they're just not that good. Are you sure it's just that in the 90s (the golden era of hip hop) there were just more exceptional rappers and less average rappers in comparison to now where exceptional lyricism comes from probably a handful of emcees.
