She made underground mixtapes for years, took every and any promo avenue she could get for years (even really small ones), and spent time networking, working on her craft, and trying to get labels to see her perspective when they didn't want to. All of these things are stepping stones, and all of these things contributed to that #1 even if you think they didn't.

But, ha success didn't come along until she decided to record a ~fun, uptempo Pop song backed by a DJ Mustard rip-off beat and and a catchy hook
DOn't none of these 12 year olds bopping to Fancy know about those mixtapes,
and I doubt they'd be interested in listening to any of the songs on them
But, I mean, hey...

Both of those songs do not curse that much. And Thrift Shop curses A LOT. And guess who that is by? A white rapper.

She left Australia at 16 to pursue a dream she had in her mind as a young girl who loved the music she now makes. Iggy has never written racist remarks about African Americans. She was 16 and she also had a lot of growing up to do. What she said then doesn't necessarily reflect the type of person she is today.
That's totally fine. You don't have to enjoy her music nor do you have to support it. There's lots of others that will. Rap and hip-hop can exist inside the pop bubble, because pop takes sounds from multiple genres. I have no problem with Iggy bridging together pop, rap, and hip-hop. In fact, I actually encourage her to do so. She didn't leave Australia at 16 to fail and make nothing of herself. She found a way to become successful, but she still retains her love for hip-hop and rap. That is evident in her songs even if they incorporate sounds that fit inside Top 40 radio.

Why do people who defend Iggy never have the facts that can be researched and proven right? Her tweets were recorded/posted at the earliest in 2010. She was 20 at the time and she continued tweeting racist (and sexist/ hypocritical things, but that's another topic) after that. She was not 16. She was a grown 20 year old women in America trying to follow her rap dream.

This is insane and ridiculous. The idea that white people rapping is the equivalent of misappropriation of black people is absolutely stupid.
AND (though I know many disagree on this) I firmly believe that being a white rapper is a DISADVANTAGE in the urban community. It makes it harder to get on radio, and harder to earn respect from your peers. Just look at how few successful white rappers there are. White privilege obviously exists, but not in rap music.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Iggy's BEAUTY is a major ccontributing factor of her success, her race is not.
And to top it off, 90% of the (white) people I know assumed that she was black before I informed them otherwise.

Not really. She flopped within the black community because we know what and who we are instinctually for the most part. And she "smelled funny" in a metaphorical sense.
Of course they're white, they'd more than likely sound just like her if they tried to mock the pitch, tone and inflection black americans tend to carry. She prospered in the white market, the pop market because she finally threw in the right indicators for white people to listen. the Charli XCX Pop Chorus and the Clueless video.

Because every 20 year old has her/his morals and values firmly secured and figured out? Go through this thread and you'll find plenty of discriminatory statements against white people. Go look at threads on this forum where there are racist remarks made against minorities. Age matters. People mature. Some don't. Iggy has yet to make stupid statements like she did in 2010. If she were racist, I think she'd have a very hard time working so closely with T.I.

The first tweet is not a racist remark when you compare it to the other tweets, which aren't about African Americans. Therefore, I stand correct in what I said.

No. The point I and others have made, along with the author of the article, is that Fancy and as it follows Iggy is a success because of mainstream, not Urban. Thus, Iggy didn't have to "cross" any racial barriers—mainstream, the people that put her on, love that she's a hot white girl rapping.

I cackled @ the idea of a racist White person being uncomfortable using a Black person as a stepping stone to success

White culture?
What's White culture
Appropriating other people's cultures, trivializing their struggles and then calling them "exclusive" when they do things to try and overcome these struggles and empower themselves?

At what age exactly are people supposed to be mature and understand the weight within their words? Because people sure do like making excuses for people who are no longer children. She was 20 and has the ability to pick up the book or use the computer to learn about racism but chose to make those ignorant comments. Of course people make mistakes, I'm almost 20 and I've made plenty of stupid remarks but lets not excuse people for being willingly ignorant.
That being said I think being white in the rap community has both advantages and disadvantages. I do think it will be harder for her to gain respect or a large black audience but at the same time white people tend to like her more because she's "safe" and she will get the sales. I think the anger a lot of people have is when people or articles claim white people who do majority black genres(R&B, urban, rap, hip-hop) to be the saviors of music or the best.
Iggy is a good rapper and she struggled to get there but lets not pretend being white doesn't afford her some advantages as well. Also I don't understand the issue with her "accent" either, someone explain please
