Girl pay attention.
His father is from the UK and talks very proper, and his mother is white(or biracial?). People in school used to bully Devin as a kid and make fun of him for the way he talked. They used to call him Uncle Tom and say that he isn't black enough. He didn't feel comfortable around black people because of this. Devin eventually started trying to change the way he talked around black people just so that he could fit in. That kind of treatment really does affect someone's mind, and that's why he doesn't try to date black women. It all stems from his childhood.
Sure it's sad that he doesn't date black woman, but it's very easy to see how it came to that for him. I just feel bad for him. It's a shame, but it's very typical—minorities often hold themselves back, and Devin's treatment growing up is just an example of that.
