Quote:
Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and rapper Jay Sean caps a weekend’s worth of music and more when he performs Saturday night, July 5, at the 2014 LBI Freedom Fest outside at the Long Beach Township municipal complex in Brant Beach.
The event, organized by the Long Beach Island Chamber of Commerce and the township, offers food and drink, tunes, vendors, fireworks and other fun on both July 4 and 5. Admission is $5; however, veterans and people younger than 19 are admitted free.
Friday features a beer and wine garden, festival food, an artisans courtyard and amusement rides for kids throughout the the day. The music lineup for Friday includes performances by Petra Nova at 11:30 a.m., Facedown at 1 p.m., Naked Twister at 3 p.m. and DJ Prime’s July 4th Boombastic Birthday Celebration at 5 p.m.
The excitement continues on the 5th when Jay Sean – whose latest album, the R&B-influenced Neon, sold 3,605 copies in its first week – takes the stage.
The London-born artist has released a total of five studio albums, as well as two compilation albums and a number of singles, including the hit “Down,” from the album All or Nothing. The song, which features American rapper Lil Wayne, sold six million copies worldwide and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. in 2009.
The festival closes with a fireworks finale at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Freedom Fest honors veterans and active military, with a portion of the proceeds to be set aside to aid vets with training and employment, and to provide them monetary support.
