Madonna's song writing ability is certainly one of the most underrated unrecognised aspects of her career.
Madonna had actually been writing songs since the begining of her career, starting with the band she was in "The breakfast club" Madonna was one of the lead song writers in the pre fame era.
Later she formed "Emmy" in which her and stephen bray were writing songs together until Madonna decided to Market herself as a solo act.
It's a little bit of an unknown fact that Madonna has written (totally alone) more songs written on her first album alone than most pop stars today have in their entire careers.
Let's take a look:
1. "Lucky Star" - Madonna was the sole song writer.
2. "Burning up" - Madonna was the sole song writer.
3. "I know it" - Madonna was the sole song writer.
4."Think of me" - Madonna was the sole songwriter.
5. "Everybody" - Madonna was the sole song writer.
Lucky star peaked at number 4 on the billboard hot 100.
Burning up peaked at number 3 on the billboard US hot dance club songs chart
Everybody peaked at number 3 on the billboard US hot dance club songs chart and also number 7 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
So there you have it. In madonna's first album alone she had a Hot 100 top ten and three hot dance club songs chart that were written totally by herself.
If that's not enough to convince you of her ability when it comes to song writing, lets delve into the rest of her career.

Note: Madonna has been the lead song writer on basically her entire discography. There are very few songs where she hasn't had artistic input. - The above list reflecs songs where she and only one other person have been involved.
As we can clearly see Madonna's talent at song writing has been right infront of us her entire career. In todays music climate so many pop stars have 5 or even 7 writers to one song, not the queen of pop whose artistry is often overshaddowed by her image as one of the greatest self promoters the world has ever known.
It's no surprise that Madonna has been recognised by the industry for this ability.
2012 - Golden Globe for best oriignal song.
It's also no surprise to me, that the queen has been nominated to enter the song writing hall of fame.
- Madonna's artistry is often unrecognised.
- Madonna has written hit music totally alone.
- Madonna has been the lead song writer for the majority of her hits and discography.
- Madonna has been recognised by the industry for her song writing ability with prestigious awards.
- Madonna is the Queen.
Incredible talent. Amazing that she has had ALL these ideas incessantly swimming around in her head for 30+ years... Like, she has to have been one of the most inspired people on earth. She's really a great lyricist.
It's barely three paragrpahs long. It is long asthetic wise because of the LONG list of songs she has written.
Surely your comprehension of the english language is good enough to read through a barely 3 paragraph thread. If not, no one is forcing you to be involved.

I totally agree
