As much as I like the idea of TRL coming back it won't. This generation has easy access to music videos any time they want. Back then you couldn't go on YouTube or VEVO and watch videos like you can now.

Exactly. Most people would rather pick and choose which video to watch than to have a video come on their television that they don't like and have to sit through it until MAYBE the next one is one they actually like.

But I def think there should be a new show that comes out... dunno how they would market themselves though but it would be nice. I don't have cable so I really don't care tbh lol

Okay, you say that people would rather choose what videos they want to watch solid. So what about an outlet for up and coming new artist there are tons of artists who WOULD GAIN EXPOSURE FROM BEING ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. with losing Trl we also lost shows like, making the video, diary and you know just other platforms MTV gave the popstar. They work hand in hand with the record label. so it's not a generational thing it's about music called music television we are all here because of music. ITS NOT ON ANYMORE THAT'S WHY PEOPLE DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T SEE IT YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU MAKE IT THEY WILL COME.

It was because the new version sucked it wasn't as funny as the original and had a mediocre cast.

I think if TRL can keep up with the times and add some new flavor it could work.

TRl came back last night and everyoneee watched.
Theory disproven to the TRL haters. Only thing that will suck is
it will be focused on video debuts and prob no countdown.

I honestly can't see MTV doing this. I can see them doing these kinds of specials for other artists (and in the process use the nostalgia value of the TRL name to get more ratings), but not bring it back as a full-time show.

I won't say much about 106 & Park because it's kind of an anomaly, but VH1, CMT, Fuse, and other so-called music channels can have their Top 10/20 countdowns because these are taped shows that only air once a week. And they can air them whenever they want (usually Saturday or Sunday and never on primetime) for the casual viewer who's into music.

For TRL, though, they need a dedicated fan base that would watch the show every day, like teenagers. But today's teenagers barely even remember what TRL was, so drawing them in will be tough. Plus, it'd be hard for kids to have that "can't miss it" feeling with a new TRL, even if their fave is there or if there's some iconic moment, because if they do miss it, an hour later it's gonna be all over YouTube.

On top of that, MTV most likely wouldn't put TRL on primetime because reality shows are cheaper to make and give them better ratings. And morning/midday wouldn't make any sense except in the summer. So, MTV would have to put the show on the afternoon and be stuck with teenagers coming from school as their core demo for it. Sadly, I don't see enough of them finding the show so appealing that they'd watch it every day (or even four days a week).
