I always see threads about, "What celebrity is gay" or "How can I improve my gaydar."
I was wondering when you speculate who might or might not be gay are you using gay stereotypes to back up your speculations?
Is your gaydar based on things that society associates with gay men? Like feminine mannerism, being well groomed, or dressing nice? Do you think the whole idea of a gaydar kind of marginalizes gay men to a specific type of look or action, when in reality we all look and behave differently?
So my question is: Should we stop speculating who is gay & stop using our gaydars because when we do these things we are supporting gay stereotypes which limit our community?
It tends to work most of the time though
and theres nothing wrong with being feminine, it just happens that a lot of gay people are nothing to be ashamed of
My gaydar is mostly based on stereotypes to be completely honest, and it doesn't fail that much more of us are stereotypes than we like to admit.
You can pick more masculine gays just by how they act around women in my experience.

If you use a stereotype which is extreme. Feminine, extremely well groomed I'm sure it is going to work a lot. The point of gaydar was to be able to tell who is gay when it isn't obvious. You probably walk past a lot of guys that are gay that don't fit in to any stereotypes & your gaydar doesn't know it
It's not just gay people who have a gaydar though? When I came out, my parents both said they have great gaydar and guessed before I was 10 (). I agree it's hella nosy and doesn't help us much. It's just so ingrained in our culture now, it's even parodied.
I think as a gay when you practice using your gaydar it limits your outlook on your own community. It makes you start to associate these stereotypes with gays. It makes you forget how many men there are that are masculine. There are so many gay men that can past for straight, but people tend to overlook them because they're stuck on this gaydar thing

But there is also a gaydar for masculine gays. Now you are stereotyping.
I have seen many masculine gays that I just knew were gay cause of "gaydar" or whatever. I just felt it. And some I did not.
This is my point tho. Educate yourself. Taylor has never came out as gay so your basing him being gay on a speculation of her being gay. & the other 2? Acting like gays are the only people who don't want to change
