I mean, it's a miniscule amount of 6 cents, but that's still a HUGE increase... I think iTunes is just threatening to cut iTunes off because they want to haggle the artists down to maybe 11 or 12 cents...
And personally, if iTunes were to shut itself down, I think the musicians would benefit more. Because then there would be more people that go out and buy the actual discs from their favorite artists... As a person who physically buys all of his CDs, I'm pretty sure that people who use iTunes to get their music would go and buy the physical forms of these songs. Some of the people are against downloading music illegally and prefer to use iTunes simply because of the convenience. No gas money to get to the record store, no sales tax on the CD, and a very reasonable price at $10 per album, $12 with bonus content, and $0.99 per song.

I read the first paragraph and thought "Wow, someone with a brain posted something in this thread", then I read the second one...
You are probably dead on with the idea that it is just a threat, but you are dead wrong in the fact that musicians would benefit more if iTunes ceases to exist. Lets just do an example and we will figure it out... Lets say iTunes goes away. At most (and being very generous), 50% of people will go buy the CD's who used to use iTunes. Approximately 25% would go to other legal downloading sources. The other 25% will give up and start downloading illegally since they don't have the money to afford CD's. Those numbers are still being very generous, but even taking it as a fact, that is still 25% of the people lost who used to buy the music legally.
............(giving you a sec to think of a response)
Now that I know your response will be something like "Even the 25% decrease wouldn't mean anything because the CD revenue will bring in more money." However, that would only bring more to the record labels, not the musicians which should be the only people we care about. No one (except Jeremy

) cares about the record labels. And if you don't think some people will switch from legal downloading to illegal, you are dead wrong.
Record labels are greedy. There are plenty of ways to support your favorite artists which includes going to concerts, buying their merchandise, and plenty of other things. Cd money primarily goes to the record labels. Support your artists, not the record labels!!!
