Well? I'm just wondering because here's my story:
I live in a small farm town in the midwest. I am European, and I get to travel back every so often. Here in my town (and the U.S in particular) everyone dresses like ****; sweatpants and sweatshirts are the staples of fashion. Now, me being a European, I like to look nice and and bring essences of European fashion with me, so whenever I go out in public or go to school, I dress as nicely as possible. Now, I'm not gay, but everyone thinks I am and bullies me because of what I wear

I don't wear anything super tight or downright flaming or anything, just really nice stuff. This is my last year in HS, and all though I'm excited to go out to college where people are more accepting, I still can't help but feel guilty that I won't look back on my HS days as fondly as everyone else
But my question is, why are nicely dressed straights stereotyped as gay? Is it because I live in a small, sheltered town where sweatpants and old white nikes are the Hoy Grail? Should I stop dressing nicely?
What do you think/assume about nicely dressed straights?
