The bit that gets me is that instead of re-recording the song until the vocals are right, they just Melodyne the **** out of them and put the notes into place with a computer, it's just such a cop-out short cut

No, those vocal were tuned by the creator, same with the Passenger Acoustic Mix, he edited Britney's raw vocals to fix the off-key parts.
