The truth is that alcohol is sociably acceptable in comparison to other drugs (yes, it's a drug, literally) because society is brainwashed and doesn't ask questions.

There was a study out of the UK not too long ago that showed alcohol to be one of the worst drugs when considering effects on the individual taking it and society at large. It was among the top 3 (worst) with crack and heroine I believe, while other illegal drugs barely registered (cocaine, ecstasy, weed...)

BTW, I'm not arguing that it should be frowned upon like other drugs are, but that other drugs should be legalized and this smoke and mirrors drug war admitted to be the disaster it always has been. Governments of FREE people have absolutely no business telling said people what they can and can't do with their own bodies, including what they put in them.

Weed was made illegal because of paper companies. Stigma was attached to it. That is about it.

But at the end of the day the biggest obstacle weed (and other drugs) face to legalization is a monetary one. The liquor and cigarette industries pumped huge amounts of money into casting their competition in a negative light, one which is still largely believed.
