Beyoncé is responsible for selling well over 200 Million records, only 4 or 5 of those are passed that threshold really.
Either way, record sales are a bad representation since there are so many factors disrupting true data. E.G: The fact that someone like Britney gets the WW #3 best selling album of 1999 and it is credited for almost 10x more as the #2 best selling album of 2014 (Beyoncé)-who is behind only the Frozen phenomena-
Or the fact that singles count as record sales....
Or the fact that discounts exists. Bey is the human with the best selling album of the year without reducing her hefty $16 price, which brings me to the conclusion that
$$$$ is a better representation; credit is legally distributed. Beyoncé is likely only behind Madonna with this measurement (somewhere near Mariah and Celine)...
Welp

Actually, the best selling albums the past couple years were r&b/pop releases (21, 20/20, Unorthodox, Unapologetic). Beyonce is big but was never the biggest in music commercially-same with her husband imo. Their hype and the media worship makes them extremely overrated.
I think Beyonce deserves the #1 Forbes ranking this year though. Commercially (literally-commercially), critically and celebrity-wise, 2013 was a great year for Beyonce. Great public response throughout the year for her tour and the surprise album.
So, how big is Beyonce? Big. So much so that her extreme popularity masks her waning success in music. Unlike stars like Britney and Gaga, Bey did not get her music ''peak'' and celebrity ''peak'' simulatenously-and that may be a hidden blessing moreso than a bad thing.
There's a difference between an R&B/Urban album & an album from an artist with a soulful voice, or music with a tiny bit of "r&b" flare.

SORRY
What? Just because two countries don't use her she is less known? Well we don't use Taylor at all in The Netherlands, most people don't even know who she is. Does that make her less global?
Rihanna: that's not even discussed anymore. Rihanna <<< Beyoncé and 70% of her fans have understood it.
One Direction: *cry*
Katy: success =/= power and impact.
Taylor: please let it go. all the girls with kids public gotta sit before I come through. she a non factor outside US.
Adele: okay, but we'll see in her 17 year of career where is the comparision. Beyoncé has a +15m album with DC and Britney has sold 30m with her debut album ! slé! but she's still <<< Beyoncé.
We don't need to wait 17 years. Adele already has sold more albums than Beyonce (solo).
Donna & Tina wasn't that huge sales-wise. Beyoncé is bigger than Janet. admit it. don't know about the others tho except Cher, Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Madonna.
Even with DC added Beyonce ain't touching Janet in album sales. You admit it.

The last two paragraphs were beautiful , the first sentence has all kinds of problems though
