Taylor Swift & Zendaya visit Hot 97

The music industry in it's current state has never been so diverse, different genres and influences of other genres being incorporated into what many consider mainstream or 'pop' songs. Urban, dance, island, country, or even classical influences can be heard in the songs by current artists that are lighting the charts on fire. One of these songs happen to be by rising singer, actress, and dancer, Zendaya Coleman, who released the debut song off her her upcoming sophomore record last week, titled 'Gunshot'. Despite it being released last week, the song did not chart due to minimal promotion as there were some conflicts with Zendaya's schedule. But Zendaya returned this week to do promotion for the song, starting it off by releasing a brand new version of it. The new version of 'Gunshot' features American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who managed to grab the #2 spot on the charts this week with her collaboration with Paige Elliot (which also ended up in a lawsuit between the two artists; which has yet to be handled). The new version of the song features vocals for Swift on the chorus, hook, and bridge in which the country-pop star re-wrote. The song was released to iTunes with a positive reception, heading straight into the top ten on iTunes within the first hour. The song was also met with acclaim from critics admiring the new flare the version had to it, amongst the chemistry between the odd pairing. The Guardian even said, "With Zendaya's almost silk vocals and perfect deliver, among Taylor Swift's versatility and impecable songwriting, 'Gunshot' is a great track that may be a future R&B classic." A review from Pitchfork said something among the lines. "The odd collaboration on a song that is definitely unexpected for Taylor Swift to feature on surprisingly works, the two delivering the world a track of quality and power." Much of the other reviews were among the lines of those two, the world seeming to enjoy the track the two delivered. The girls were together this morning as Swift flew out to New York to meet up with Zendaya where they would stay together and promote the track together. One of the stops this morning was at urban station Hot 97 where the two who would seem foreign to the station, seemed oddly at home. While in the studio, the two also performed it acapella. In the interview Zendaya and Taylor were both asked numerous questions. Here are some of Taylor's below:

Host: Taylor Swift, you're an artist we would never expect to be here. We want to give you a personal welcome and what everyone wants to know is what made you decide to get on an urban or what many call an urban influenced song?
Taylor: Thank you for the welcome, it's really great to be here. To answer your question, I can say that it was a little intimidating. I know with different genres there are people waiting to tear you down if you step out of your comfort zone and try to experiment with other sounds. I've been through that before with the whole country slash pop thing and I didn't really want this to be the same. As an artist I think we're meant to expand our horizons. We're meant to show diversity, we're meant to experiment with other genres. I don't like doing the same thing over and I have this really weird love for innovation and trying new things. Even though I've sang country or pop most of my career I've always really liked urban, hip-hop, or R&B music. So you know I heard 'Gunshot' and I just knew that I wanted to be on a song like that. So I wrote a new chorus, hook, and a bridge and it came out. Crazy, right?
Host: Imma be honest I'm a bit surprised by your delivery. You really brought something new to the track. How was it working with Zendaya?
Taylor: Working with Zendaya was a really fun time. She has this atmosphere or aura about her that can put you in a good mood. She's high energy and is a total jokster. But when she goes in the booth it's over. She absolutely kills it. When I was working with her in the studio along with producers I really felt in place. Which is weird for me because whenever I'm working with new producers I like to watch them and adapt to their strategy. But we just went in there and did it.
Host: From attacking girls on the street to filing lawsuits, releasing a urban single, you seem to evolving. Is 'Gunshot' a sound we can expect from your next album?
Taylor: The studio session we recorded 'Gunshot' in has changed the direction for the album. I intended to take it an entirely different direction. I was surprised how well the song sounded. R&B was risky for me because I don't have a voice you would expect to sing R&B but the way it worked I definitely want to record more R&B stuff.

Taylor Swift signs 360 deal with Live Nation; Packages EP with tour tickets



Taylor Swift has become of the most known popstars in the world these past few years. With smash hits like 'I Knew You Were Trouble', 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together', 'Swarovski', and her brand new single with Zendaya called 'Gunshot', it seems like the singer-songwriter is doing very well for herself. What assured us of that was the humongous 360 deal Taylor Alison Swift signed with Live Nation. We were told the deal was worth $115 million dollars, a little less than Madonna's deal signed back in 2011. Similar to Madonna, Swift signed a distributing deal last year with Tigerlily Recordings/Universal Music as well where Swift will receive $2 million dollars for every album released on Tigerlily Recordings which she has been apart of for almost a year now. Swift has made over six million dollars from the deal, with the release of 'All At Once', 'Coven 13', and lately 'Coven 13: The EP' with two more albums being apart of the deal. Swift received an advance of $16 million this year and has a $40 million cash and stock for the right to promote her concert tours and to license her name. This means Live Nation would give Swift over 70% of concert sales and about 50% of the licensing money it collects. Swift also decided to package her album 'Coven 13' along with the EP with the album tickets for her stadium tour 'The Electric Princess Tour' which kicks off at a sold out show at the Tokyo dome on July 1st. The deal bundles a GA (general admission) ticket along with the album for a price ranging from $80-$435. Contraire to what many have said Tigerlily Recordings or Taylor are not giving away the album for free but are instead charging it in with the tickets. The deal has boosted ticket sales as seven out of the nine shows apart of the Asian leg have been sold out.

Taylor Swift Scores 'Rise of The Tomb Raider' Official Theme Song



The Holiday 2015 release of the sequel to 2013's Tomb Raider, 'Rise of The Tomb Raider' has aleady caused great anticipation as the first peek at the game was released not to long ago (perhaps what has been a month ago). The game, Rise of the Tomb Raider continues the story of Lara Croft as she seeks to learn more about the deeper, secret world she as discovered around her. Obsessed by what she has seen, Lara is now threatened by a shadow organization intent on killing her for what she knows. She is pushed to her physical and mental limits as she seeks the truth buried deep within the tombs of an ancient world. To unravel the mystery of a Lost City, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider. Much has yet to be be revealed about the 2015 release but that was until today when a special announcement was made regarding the game. For the first time, a Tomb Raider game would have an official theme song. The theme song was announced by Square Enix and was by one of the biggest artists in the music world right now. That artist was Taylor Swift, alongside the artist who was also on the track with her, Zendaya. The two girls were both interview by Square Enix where they played a trailer of the game with the song. "I never really imagined I would have one of my songs be the official theme song of a video game. Especially not a game as huge as Tomb Raider" a young and clearly ecstatic Zendaya Coleman raved, looking over to friend and co-worker Taylor Swift. "It's surreal. I've always loved Tomb Raider. I'm not much of a video game head but I could always kick some ass at Tomb Raider. But this is absolutely crazy for me. I didn't think I even made video game esque music. This is just a defining moment in my, actually I would say our careers" Taylor Swift chimed in, looking over to Zendaya. "I agree." Answering and elaborating further on why they were so honored when asked if 'Gunshot' could be the official theme song of 'Rise of the Tomb Raider', Swift answered. "You know Lara Croft is a very strong individual. She's the eptitome of intelligent, smart, and just tough. But with all that she's also independent and very empowering. She's an icon for feminists and I believe for anyone in the modern world. A female hero is a rare occurrence nowadays and I feel that's one reason why Zendaya and I were so honored when they asked us if they, Square Enix, could use the song as the official theme song for it. That being it's also ****ing Lara Croft." Fans of the video game franchize shockingly responded well to the news, saying the song fit the game perfectly and that the two were obvious fans of the franchise. NBC EXCLUSIVE PRIMETIME SPECIAL/ MARIAH "BIANCA" Carey: AT HOME IN CONCERT



In an NBC primetime special, global superstar Mariah "Bianca" Carey does something she has done last year with the "Me I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse" album which garnered 1.9 million viewers to the channel. Carey will perform in a one-of-a-kind special concert from an apartment she has in NYC. Carey sat down with the host in a personal interview and opens up about her darker part of her childhood, her family life, and her critically-acclaimed, autobiographical new dark album, “The Stygian Chevalier," which has received reviews that surpass her biggest selling albums like "Music Box" and "Rainbow".

NBC takes you on a musical journey with Mariah "Bianca" Carey, highlighting tracks from the new record and going inside the global icon’s home, showing glimpses of her darker life. The concert includes special performances by artists Nas and Azealia Banks. It is also rumored that NBC will push this show hard to increase TV ratings.

A teaser video has been released by NBC and it has gotten 5 million views so far.
