that's one of the very few platinum certifications (if not the only one) this album has obtained around the world.

I expected a lot from this album. Every track sounds like sure-fire billboard no 1. Now the whole thing flops, I just can't understand what the **** is going on with her ? Personally I don't want any more single from this album coz it's going to be a complete shame.
I don't even care if she re-releases E=MC2.

I think this era is just about wrong singles.... the album has the material, i still think EMC2 its one ofe the best female albums this year

Some people here are calling flop an album that is still in the top 10 best selling albums of this year,,,basically with only one hit

I really hope "I stay in love" can save this era, songs like Side Effects and Migrate cant stay as album cuts!! the same thing has happen to MC in the past.... songs like "Melt Away" from Daydream album (1995) The Roof(Butterfly Album) Stay the night (TEOM) never were singles and in my opinion they are brilliant!!!

I will never count out someone as talented and sucessull as Mariah she has proove in the past she aint going nowhere!! so Haters stop hating!!!!

Honestly if this was 10 years ago she would have sold a lot more than a million, because you know that an album with these numbers wouldn't have been top 10 in the 90s. Emotions sold 3 million, so this is basically the same level of success (except for the flop singles) being that 3 million then is like 1 million now. And Emotions also followed a huge success, and she came back strong after that one too.

No, Emotions sold closer to 4.5 million, but I'd say if this album were released 10 years ago it would have at least outsold Rainbow. Heck, if this album was released 3 years ago it probably would've matched Rainbow's sales. It seemed like everything REALLY took a plunge in '06 through now. TEOM would have struggled to reach 3x plat if it was released this year.

Anyways, the right single choice could have earned this album 2x platinum, but the problem is that all of the ballads sound like they were recycled from TEOM. Mariah is going back into the studio most likely to record more ballads to add to her upcoming ballads collection in February. Hopefully this time they're not all about pleading with an ex to rekindle their former love, ughhh.

Emotions only hit 4 million after Music Box came out...I should have specified "at this point in its run" but yeah it was triple platinum until 1994

And the ballads collection is not Mariah sanctioned, and she's not recording for it. It's a Sony release of old material, that is completely without her consent, only because they have the rights to the music and want to make more money from her name.

i hope mariah goes in a different direction with this album. like she could record songs with heavy guitar riffs, do something different.
