Apparently she doesn't have the best relationship with MTV and to be honest, a lot of artists doing something controversial on the VMAs is their peak. Their overexposure goes through the roof and they're never able to achieve a peak like that again. I don't think Rihanna actually wants a VMAs controversy. So for not getting one, I'd say Rih. But not to the "without trying" bit. If she tried she'd definitely get it. But I think she and her team know she's better to just focus on her fashion, discography, albums and charts.
