Most presidents end with a low approval rating. Anyways, it's unfortunate but he's basically been a sitting duck throughout most of his terms, held hostage by congress.

And that's because he can't do anything because Congress won't negotiate with him. It's sad really. And Americans are too stupid to realize otherwise.

Not that terrible. A lot of people are misled and are voicing disappointment in decisions he actually doesn't control - the US seems to think the president is responsible for getting everything done and for all the bad things that happen, as far as legislation.

People have been saying this since damn near WW2; I think the US is gonna be fine.

The presidency is a joke and has been since the late 80s. They literally have no power: their approval rating is essentially the approval rating of the government. Democrats and Republicans alike have made it impossible to make any deals because they are too childish and immature to be running this nation. How can you possibly give a government an approval rating when the other half of the government SHUT IT DOWN? The party system needs to die.

Both sides of the political spectrum are at fault honestly.

Democrats are having a hard time atm, but I think they'll recover eventually. At the end of the day, the general public care most about social issues (gender equality, immigration, gay rights, abortion, global warming, etc.), and the democrats are on the "correct" side of most of these issues with regards to the public opinion. I think when it comes to 2016, the Republicans will have to become (or pretend to be) more liberal on these issues, if not, the democrats will win.

Obama still managed to kill Osama bin Laden and the recovery effort after Hurricane Sandy was much more efficient than Bush's effort with Hurricane Katrina recovery.

Plus, the Republican congress is the one that caused the government to shut down, not Obama.
