Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” (Universal) debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 21,000 (like selling 210K in the US) units sold. It is her first chart-topping album and third straight top ten release. It is also her biggest one week sales total to date, doubling her previous high total, reached with her first full-length album, 2012’s “Born To Die,” which peaked at No. 3.
“In The Lonely Hour” (Universal), the debut album from Sam Smith, enters the Top Albums chart at No. 2 with 14,000 units sold (like selling 140,000 in the US). “Stay With Me,” the first single from the album, remains at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 for the second straight week.
Linkin Park’s “Hunting Party” (Warner) debuts at No. 3 with 12,000 units sold. It is their ninth release to reach the top ten and it pushes their overall sales total to 1.9 million units, placing them 31st on the list of the top selling artists in the SoundScan era.
Two Canadian artists score top ten album debuts this week. Deadmau5’s “While (1<2)” (Universal) enters at No. 5, his third top ten album.
Stromae’s “Racine Carree” (Universal) leaps 64-10 with a 295% sales increase in its 44th week on the chart. It matches the album’s highest chart position to date, reached in its first week of release in August.
Katy Perry’s “Birthday” (Universal) jumps 2-1 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. It is her eighth airplay chart topper and first since "Roar" spent six weeks at #1 in September of 2013, making her a certified legend.
Calgary singer Kiesza jumps 15-6 on the Canadian Hot 100 with “Hideway” (Universal), scoring Greatest Gainer/Digital honours. The song, which holds at No. 1 for a second week on the Canadian Emerging Artists chart, moves 14-5 on the Digital Songs chart with a 39% download increase as well as moving 24-19 on the Hot 100 Airplay list.
“Maps” (Universal), Maroon 5’s first single from their upcoming album, due in early September, picks up the Hot Shot Debut on the Canadian Hot 100, entering at No. 12. It is their second best debut, only surpassed by their #1 song, "Payphone" which entered at #2. The song debuts at #7 on the Digital Songs chart.
