for everyone who missed the I/O today
Quote:
During Apple's WWDC keynote, CEO Tim Cook and company took a couple shots at Android, which is something that we have come to expect. What we didn't really expect was that Google would swing back during its Google I/O keynote today.
The more direct attack came with a slide labeled "Android Innovation", which showed various platform features throughout the history of Android. The graphic showed items like multitasking in Android 1.0, custom keyboards and widgets in Cupcake, battery stats by app in Gingerbread, interactive notifications in Jelly Bean (4.1), quick settings and gesture typing in Jelly Bean (4.2), and more. If the chart alone weren't enough of a slap in the face to Apple, Pichai said, "If you look at what other platforms are getting now, widgets, custom keyboards, many of these things came to Android four, maybe five years ago."

That's just mean of them. It's not Apple's fault they wait until everything works before putting it in.

This isn't shade though.
iOS only gets features once they become the norm, so the OS remains smile and easy to use for the a average consumer.
All Google have done is shown Apple's mission statement.
Apple shaded the fact most Android users aren't using the current OS. Which is true. It wasn't shade.

Apple is always way late on device technology. They seem to focus on this that don't really need development. The only things they've done since the 4S was bigger screen and the thumb print reader

First, Pichai talked about Google Play services, and pointed out that the real power of Android (or Google's version at least) comes from that framework. Pichai noted that Google Play services is updated every six weeks, and it is automatically pushed out. He said that this means 93% of Android devices have the newest Google Play services, regardless of what version of the OS the device is running.

what every apple fanboy seems to forget is that apple has 4 models of smartphones to update, google has thousands
plus, the old models doesn't get everything the new ones get, with Android that's different, what's available to the most recent one is also available to the old one
a great example of this is Siri

All Apple said is they wait to introduce a feature and implement it to the OS so it becomes a part of the OS. Rather than Android's method who attach features to the OS, without making it an integral part of it, resulting in clutter, rather than just OS enhancements (eg. widgets on ios being tucked away yet easily accessible rather than on the home page always on show and then causing apps to be available in two different places (desktop and app tray) rather than all apps be accessible on the desktop).
It's just down to personal preference. They are trying to sell their ideas and schemes to developers.
---
Develops want to invest in the best OS. If Apple mention that most people run the latest software, whereas Android owners don't, why would an developer invest in a platform that most people won't update too etc.
Basically you want to get developers more interested in developing for your platform.
Google listing all the things it did first isn't going to win people over. Apple announcing that the majority of users are willing to update to a platform developers can work on, will.

What every Android fanboy seems to forget is that those thousands of Android devices have different types of hardware, which means even if they have the latest Google Play features doesn't mean they are going to be able to run on their tablet
For example, even popular Apps like snapchat won't run on half of the newer devices, whereas people with Apple products won't have this problem as long as the device can run ios 6 or up (which is as early as the iPhone 3G)
& that was someone using a Nexus 7 from last year.

Not really. A developer doesn't care what someone did first, they want to know what someone is doing next.
Apple announced a new developer tool for develops, Google announced who did small features (which most of them can't be patented by Android anyway because they are actually from the jailbreak community to begin with) first.
At a developers meeting, selling them a feature to help them is what they want to hear, not "we did this first". They also want to hear that the majority of the user base is up to date and able to implement features on the current OS. Not that most people won't see your changes because they are using an older OS or old hardware.

Exactly what a Smartphone should be. A simple but powerful (since the iPhone 5s is still the most powerful phone on Geekbench once inflation is taken away) device, that does calls, texts and uses Apps. Which is what the GP want.
So no, not "little processing power" when the A7 chip is desktop class, and if the A8 chip is quad-core, and each core is already more powerful than the A7's core, it will thrash the competition, since all the phones released so far are on par or worse than the 5s.
