Interesting, I'm surprised you/she would say that. Ray of Light as a whole is incredible but I don't think the title track is the best song, just the catchiest. For instance, a few of the others I love from that album--"Frozen," "Little Star," "Shanti / Ashtangi" and "The Power of Good-Bye." I could listen to those in a loop over and over.

I guess I can see the charm in that minimalist sort of sound (Candy Shop is actually pretty good) but everything that Pharrell has produced in the last 3 years has sounded so bland and monotonous to me. I'm glad you love it though and I don't regret buying it.

Erotica is my all-time Madge favorite and a lot of people hate that one so I guess it's different strokes for different folks.

I always pictured the Miles Away video as being Madonna walking throughout the world, and each time this shows up there would be different words on her shirt inspired by what's going on in the world today aka "Hate" "Prejudice" "Nuclear" etc. etc., intercut with scenes of Madonna at a red carpet premiere, looking glamorous and sort of cocky like the woman from the Devil Wears Prada and she looks around to find her man but he is not there, and she starts to cry as the papparazi take her picture and other celebrities are with their spouses, then there would be other scenes in the boxing ring (inspired by the Hard Candy album shoot), fighting with another woman & looking up in the audience to see no one there, and she's all disappointed and sad, and she stomps the ground in anger real hard which sends out an earthquake - like pulse which then intercuts to a scene of a man who then feels that quake and stomps his foot back, and then she feels his pulse.... then the climatic scene would be near the end where she starts singing "so far away" and it goes into the electronic guitar ending.... this would cut back to the scene with the shirts with words on them, and she starts stripping them off to show other words as she walks around the world (you can see the cities & landmarks in the background), then all of a sudden all hell breaks loose.... atomic bombs are dropped, tornadoes are dropping from the sky, there is fierce lightning, people are shooting at one another, planes hitting buildings, etc. etc....all the while Madonna is walking through all of this without being harmed aka another Madonna controversy.... and then the video ends with a scene of John McCain & Barack Obama shaking hands & smiling, and then Madonna looks down at the world from a mountain top and sees everything being destroyed, and she is crying blood from her eyes. The video then intercuts to a very quick scene with her husband on another mountain top far away in the same state of mind, and the viewer once again sees the world being destroyed and the video fades out with the word "Change" on her shirt.

That was just my "Miles Away" video idea....

As for Devil Wouldn't Recognize You.....
Video starts with Madonna in a hoodie, in a dark room with her head face down, holding a toy carousel in her hands, which is moving around.... after the little "Lullaby" introduction to the song (as i call it), and the music starts to ascend, she lifts her head and reveals herself to be devil-looking (like real scary looking Madonna),, then the same Madonna is in a 60's style diner with a cup of coffee in her hands, another scene is Madonna in the rain dancing with other people in hoodies, at the diner there is another Madonna, who is like the "Angel" Madonna or "Innocent" Madonna, who is the enemy of "Devil" Madonna (don't say this sounds like Die Another Day, because it has a different result)..... anyways, "Devil" Madonna sees "Angel" Madonna and tries to inflict harm on her (using voodoo like tactics).... In the bridge of the song where Justin can be heard doing his "oh ah oh ah" etc. etc., Angel Madonna confronts Devil Madonna, and Devil Madonna stands up and uses voodoo like tactics to throw Angel Madonna high in the air and makes her land halfway across the diner. At the same time, the diner seems to have been hit with a violent force and everything is flying everywhere, and the customers & employees seem to be cowering in fear. The video intercuts to a scene with Devil Madonna in a grocery store, where she points to people, such as a customer yelling at an employee, and a manager touching a woman's butt, and a man stealing a purse, and she sends points at them, and fire erupts underneath of them, and they are seen falling into the floor, symoblizing their descent to Hell. The video then intercuts back to Angel Madonna singing during the bridge "It's like over and over you're pushing me right down to the floor.... etc.", looking up at Devil Madonna with heavy bruises and cuts.... Devil Madonna proceeds in causing havoc in the diner, eventually killing Angel Madonna. In a quick flashback-type scene, Madonna is seen betraying and backstabbing a friend and then the video ends with Angel Madonna lying dead on the diner floor, and Devil Madonna standing outside in the rain alone, grinning at the camera menacingly.

But of course, Madonna would NEVER do something like this because her videos aren't inventive like this anymore

I respect your opinion Mazen, but Madonna not wanting to "re-invent" herself is just a cop-out. I wasn't expecting another ROL and yes, I can respect the fact that this is the kind of the record she wanted to make but I truly don't think she delivered. A few select songs are superb ("She's Not Me" & "Miles Away"), a few songs are near perfect but still flawed ("Heartbeat," "Incredible," "The Beat Goes On") and there are some unforgiveable clunkers ("Spanish Lesson" & "Dance 2nite").

GI2M and Candy Shop would be great if the production didn't sound so cheap and tinny. Heartbeat would be my fave track if Madonna's vocals didn't sound off-key, and 4 Minutes isn't even a song, it's just a hot mess. Timbaland may be a good producer but he's a lousy songwriter and whatever he added to this album in terms of production, he took away from the melody and lyrics.
