She did not lie. Rihanna, Beyonce, and Katy all appeal to much larger demographics whereas Gaga and Mariah both have specific demographics that they are either specifically targeting or unintentionally appealing to. There's nothing wrong with having a specific target audience, it's just that it doesn't allow for them to have expansive audiences. The only reason Wendy got backlash from her audience is because the crowd is full of middle-aged Mariah fans.

Beyonce does appeal to young girls though. She obviously has songs that are too mature to appeal to young audiences like Partition, but so do Rihanna and Katy with songs like S&M and Circle the Drain. All three of those artists appeal to people of all ages and genders.
