Taylor's "pizza deal" still sold her album at full price and contributed only 8k to her sales. It was simply an offer to have the album delivered with your pizza, but you'd have to pay the full price of both the album and the pizza. I don't see it as a manipulative deal tbh.

And Taylor's promotional effort never put an asterisk on her sales. That's the difference.

No...that's the point of the deal. They're paying them to sell her album in their stores, as a part of the album's marketing campaign and Papa John gets the money they make out of selling the album. Not sure if her label gets a share of the profits or not. And even if they do, what's the problem in that? Labels are supposed to make money out of selling the album, regardless of the retailer.

If it's sold at Wal-mart, her labels gets the money. Sold at Papa Johns, her label gets the money. Sold on Mars, her label gets the money....

Precisely. haven't read the whole thread but has anyone mentioned the fact that, arguably in real terms, the 2nd best selling album of all time (21) isn't in that list?

21 would be included on this list if it wasn't just debut sales. It sold 979,000 copies in its 56th week on the chart.

Edit: Actually, it would be listed twice as it also sold 957,000 copies in its 48th week.

This is a list of the biggest first week sales of this decade. It's not supposed to represent the overall success of the albums on the list. It's only supposed to show the biggest debut sales of this decade. If you don't approve of it, make another one.

Jeez, my original post was in response to one suggesting longevity is preferable, that's all. If discussion wasn't allowed on this subject why would you put it on a music discussion forum? Please calm down...

And I didn't say that you were not allowed to discuss anything. I simply said that if you didn't approve of this list, you could make another list of the biggest sales weeks of this decade overall, not just first weeks.
