A few months ago, Zedd overheard a female artist performing at a label showcase while he was backstage, and mentioned to his team that he wanted to work with whoever owned the voice he was hearing. That voice turned out to be Grande's, and a month later, the producer and singer "randomly got connected" and made the "Problem" follow-up.
"[Grande's voice] is super-recognizable, it has a unique texture," says Zedd, "and really, that's all I'm looking for in a singer, is to have a voice that is really special and different from other voices you hear everyday."
