How did Beyoncé get brought into this?  lawd
To Aaliyah stans: your fave's influence is undeniable, even when it is implicit and second hand. You know Aaliyah is talented / influential, why spend so much time reminding people of that? We already know! Aaliyah is amazing yes, but she DIDN'T create R&B and there are many other influences Tinashe could have had that even Aaliyah herself drew inspiration from. Can't we just be happy we're getting new, quality R&B music from an artist that clearly knows her **** and respects the greats?!

Exactly. I love Aaliyah's music, but the girl wasn't some omnipresent legend. Her career was just getting started.

Probably, he changed the title and thread subject three-four times and wouldn't accept any other opinion except his own even though it was supposed to be a discussion. But at the end of the day know that the majority of us are fans of and respect Aaliyah, her fashion, her music and her impact, dead or alive.

I feel like out of the new wave of R&B pop girls, the main ones that draw obvious Aaliyah comparisons are Pia Mia, Sevyn and Jhene. Pia with with the tom boy and urban-chic fashion, Jhene with vocals and persona, Sevyn with everything she's still really good though.

Y'all oughta watch the actual video before punching down them keys, Tinashe was nothing but respectful and what she said was very clear and concise, zero disrespect there. So the people laughing discrediting Aaliyah, you're idiots. And the people trying to defend Aaliyah's influence, great but also not necessary. Bickering for no reason over someone gone for 13 something years, only a real queen!
