During a general conversation, a friend of mine recently claimed that a college degree does not make someone smarter. Well, what do you all think? Does a degree mean greater dedication, or greater knowledge? Both? Or maybe something else? Discuss!
Taking College courses definitely does. The degree itself, not so much. My dad never finished college, but he was one of those people who knew facts about/the history of just about any topic you could come up with there are many reasons why people might not get to finish a degree, other than intellect.
In this day and age, if you're not getting post-secondary training of some sort and you can afford it, you're not smart, because you're throwing away job opportunities. It doesn't "make" you smarter, but you'd be smart to get one.
Yes, because it proves that you experienced college, which is way more than just the textbook material learned in class. College has so many facets of learning... social, educational, soft skills, self-awareness, etc... that I think are difficult to experience anywhere else in such a package.
I like the responses. I agree that a degree itself doesn't make someone smarter, but the dedication it takes to complete one shows good decision making. In addition to that, doing more than going to class is really beneficial. I'd say the most valuable part of college was taking part in extracurricular activities, which does count towards experience!
