i've just returned from 4 months living in China (Guangzhou, the capital of the province Guangdong) for work. I work for a Chinese airline.
One thing about China you really need to understand it just how big a difference it is culturally to Western culture and how hard the language is to learn for native English-speakers. If you can already speak Mandarin then you have a great head start but if you're planning to go in cold turkey i would think twice about committing to studying in China. Learning Mandarin is unlike other Latin-based/Germanic languages (Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch, German etc.) It's a language based on tone (Vietnamese, Thai etc.). Not mastering the tones will mean locals will not understand you even if you're pronouncing the base word correctly. THEN you will learn to write characters & grammar etc.
and unless all your friends speak english you WILL NOT survive in China without basic Mandarin for a long time.
The pros include better business opportunity for people that better understand Chinese culture and the Chinese are an interesting people and I do enjoy dealing with them onboard.
good luck
