You are straight up delusional, and have lost all credibility if you think Applause is more generic. it's not even shade, objectively Roar is the sound that is more popular on radio. It's Mall Pop-Rock. The lyrics are relatable and cliche, "eye of the tiger, floating like a butterfly".
Gaga took the drama of dark 80s synthpop and turned it into an incredibly commercial pop song. The chorus, the buildup, if someone wants to call it generic than im not going to argue seeing as it is a very commercial song. But the simple fact that even vocally its so clearly rooted in 80s synthpop to me makes it less so than Roar. Roar essentially took sara bareilles already hackneyed Brave and Katy Perry'd it out with cheese and a bad music video. I think Roar is miles more generic than Applause.
Come on people, hate Gaga all you want I give no crap.. but Applause generic? More generic than Roar? The exact replica of Brave? SERIOUSLY?
The irrational Gaga hate is too much on this site.
"Applause" is generic in parts though, just not as generic as "Roar". It's not an exact replica of "Brave", either. I suggest you Google the definition of the word 'replica'. There is just as much, if not more, actually, irrational hate towards Katy on ATRL. See this thread.
You all say Roar sounds like Brave, and Brave is less mainstream than your average pop song, then how can Roar sound more generic than the dance-pop Applause?
