Had this pulled a Massive Attack/The Boys/Freedom (never reaches the Hot 100 at all) or even a Roman in Moscow/Stupid Hoe/ (makes it to the Hot 100, but temporarily) or hell even a Did It 'On Em/Beez in the Trap/Right By My Side/High School (mild success ((well DIOE and BITT were pretty big)) but fails to chart in the Top 40), I would be in the exact same boat as a lot of you. I'd be disappointed, upset that the song didn't do what I wanted it to do and thus I would personally label it a flop. I'd be begging Nicki to move on to something else, to take a break and return to the drawing board later.
However, the single is doing what it is doing and that is mildly well. It is looking like it won't be her most successful single but it also won't be her least successful single. It has potential and we should wait before we place a label like "flop" on it.
I suppose, I cannot enforce in others my ideal definition and usage of the word "flop", but I just do not like how infectious negativity is and seeing it makes me feel numerous types of way.
From now on, I'll be more careful and try to learn to ignore it.
