I love lana but now that we have the audio she can officially sit the **** down. She was going on about her idols dying young ofcorse the interviewer is gonna ask if she wants to die young too its not a calculated step it was an obvious one any interviewer would have asked her that at that point. No one forced her to talk about those things I know how these interviews work if an artist doesnt wanna talk about something they can skip the question but she laughed about it and wanted to talk about it.

It's not a big deal anyways, her music is dark its not a surprise if shes depressed at the very least I would assume this is what her team WANTS the world to think- that shes this dark depressed deep girl. Its like when ke$ha's team wanted everyone to think shes a stupid party girl.

I was ready to recant what I had initially said about Lana and was glad she scalpT someone who twisted her words (as it is so easy to do in journalism) and then she herself got SCALP-T with that audio.

The question could have been calculated, but there has to be a certain amount of calculation / agenda in any interview. That's why there are so many good INTERVIEWERS over others. And tbh the question he asked was fair; Lana's music definitely glamorizes a morbid curiosity with despair, self loathing, even death and he was simply probing her on that. SHE chose to respond in the way that she did, and for a moment while listening to the audio it sounded like she was trying to make a case of idealizing and appreciating the iconography of those who have died young, but instead she treaded into the territory that got her into this mess.

It's not really something you can defend. If she's depressed that's one thing, but if she's just 'bored' with being a pop star, that's different. And it's sucky, IMO.

The interviewer in no way made her say the line "I wish I were dead already". He seemed surprised when she said that. Its not something she needed to say even in the topic of discussion. She just chose to throw it in.

You have to own what you say and most certainly when you say it in an major national interview! The reporter and the Guardian are just doing their jobs. Dont shoot the messengers.

At best she's very naive here. Seems to me she's just embarrassed that she gave a little too much away. But the blame lies with herself she's not new to interviews or how the media works.
