Yes, a franchise could definitely pull it off.. but they'll never do that, it's too risky. The movie business doesn't sell things based off one artist, there is way more that goes into it and a lot more is at stake, definitely money wise.

Same thing will apply to the movie, we'll know that there's a movie in the works we just wont know when it'll come out. The process of sending it to distributors across the world, landing them and having it be sent to cinemas even if just in one country itself is hard to keep secret.

While if there's a premiere date, people arrange from days before to go see it. I don't see anyone cancelling their evening plans just to go see a movie that was randomly and surprisingly released that day.
