How is there really that much wrong with what she did? Maybe she really does not have time to go with the boy to his grandmas, or maybe there is a rift in the father's relationship with the mom and the grandma is on the dad's side... who knows. I think she saw it as a relatively safe alternative to putting her kid on a bus, etc.
