I think people get mad at him because radio has seemed to blindly support him this era no matter what, up to a point of course. Obviously, they got it right with Suit & Tie, Mirrors, and Not a Bad Thing, but Take Back the Night and TKO, which were both his lowest charting singles if I'm correct, were both pushed into the Top 15 on Pop Radio (#14 and #12, respectively) and the Top 10 on Rhythmic Radio (#10 for each), which isn't fair considering there were songs that were probably more deserving of those peaks considering their sales and Hot 100 peaks in comparison to those of Take Back the Night and TKO. Obviously, it's not Justin's fault, but it's easier for many to but the blame on him than the whole radio industry.
