At first they were seen as a threat to many people... but now all they do is make pop song covers and dance on vine and basically have become a parody of their former selves? Are they over? Is their desperate attempt at making song parodies and videos a sign of their decline? Will this be their last era before the GP forgets about them altogether?!
Apparently they do it to create interest amongst the younger members of the church, and put what they think is a positive interpretation on to current pop songs. Let's face it, pop music is really catchy, and everyone loves music. You can't really go your whole life without listening to it. So they try and put their message on the hooks and keep the same beat.
It's not going to work. All the grandchildren are going to leave and the church will die out with Shirley's generation. Steve Drain will be the last leader of the church. His children will escape now that Lauren wrote a book about the church and is trying to get her siblings out of there. She's even started a charity to help finance WBC children for when the inevitably leave.
They were never a threat. Never They've always been a joke.
Since 2013 they've lost a lot of their fuel and hatred. They were a bigger organization and far more sinister for the longest time. Most of them are lawyers too who would provoke people to do things and generate an income off of lawsuits. Once Fred Phelps started to get sick and Shirley took control, they pretty much started to unravel.
The WBC is an organization meant to promote gay rights by presenting as an anti-gay rights organization so outrageous that everyone starts being put off by bigoted people. I thought this was common knowledge.
