Well, the song took off pretty well with no promo besides radio interviews in the first day, and it's doing pretty well on radio, but I get what you mean.
I think it just needs to get more popular via promotion, then the radio will play it even more.

I am actually done.
I'm pretty sure this is the type of music that best reflects who Nicki is. She is and hasn't been just a hip-hop artist since her mixtape days (and even then, some of her material arguably has influences of pop sprinkled here and there.) Nicki is a rapper who likes making pop and rap music (often times they are blended) and that's who she is. Y'all act like Nicki is pretending to be something she is not... She loves pop music as much she does rap music and that's why she makes it.
"New Rap Hard 09 Nicki" has always been here, but y'all just want to pay her dust. Realize there will be a couple more records on the album that are in the same vein as Lookin' Ass just like there will be a couple tracks in the same vein as Pills N Potions. Balance is needed and Nicki is aware of that.
I LOVE it quality-wise not just because Nicki's name is attached to it. Best believe if LIl' Mama put this song out with those vocals, the exact same lyrics, and etc., I'd eat it up. Hell, I'd eat it up if it was Soulja Boy or Migos or the flavor of the month hip-hop group.
And no, only delusional fans expected another Starships. The rest of us knew that the single would be in a similar vein to Your Love, which funny enough... The producer of Your Love recently said that Nicki loves making Your Love/Pills N Potions-esque music. It is where he thinks she shines the best.
But, I mean, it is whatever. This isn't a rant or anything. Just responding to your suggestion that this isn't the type of music Nicki enjoys making and feels like is the best reflection of her. She doesn't want to sit here and making generic pop tracks like Starships and generic rap records like Beez in the Trap all day. Let the women live and stop trying to box her in. She will always make the kind of music she wants first.

Calm. Down.
What I was trying to say is that it's so not her to release a song like this as a lead single. More like the record company to play it safe 100%. No one cares about emotional Nicki. This song would've fit Taylor, Miley or some other Country/Disney-core artist. It's too sweat, bubbly and repetitive. She was preparing everyone that the old Nicki was back and ready to slay again like when she debuted. Especially with the songs released prior to PnP to create hype for the album and her new "toned down but still loud!" image. No one was here for a slow song. Not even the fans. Maybe after a few listens, but not on the first one.
I know she likes pop, I was there when 5 Star Chick debuted, she has always been making pop(py) rap music. I just think it's a bad move to officially come back with this.

True.
Hopefully, she performs at the BET Awards and then isn't she supposed to appear on Ellen soon?

I am calm. I do not fume while writing paragraphs.
We have had many discussions like this before, but Nicki is not controlled by her record label at all and countless missteps by her label(/team?) to send music to places like VEVO and so on are proof that there is a slight disconnect. Otherwise she would have 100% smooth releases which we all know she doesn't and lord knows a label would have had this go Top 40 the first week.
"No one cares about emotional Nicki."
But, she does and she will continue to put out this type of music until the end of her career. Mark my words. This song is a reflection of where she is right now and Nicki loves making those types of records singles (see Moment 4 Life, Freedom, etc.).

She will most likely perform, BET Awards just isn't the same without her performing, lol
And I really hope she appears on another talk show, morning or late-night, it doesn't matter, just appear somewhere.
If she had released the single sooner, she could have promoted it on AI, MTV Movie Awards, BBMAs, plus a lot of other talk shows which were still running (some of them finished the season).
I'm trying to worry about promo and stuff as less as possible, because what's done is done, and I can't change it.

I was actually excited to hear NEW RAP HARD 09 NICKI COMING BACK YAAAS again, but this is just lifeless without any guides or lights for that matter. Do you Nicki stans like it quality-wise or just because it has Nicki's name on it? Cause if this was like Lil Mama's song, I'm pretty sure no one would genuinely like it. Be honest. We all expected an updated Super Bass, Beez in the Trap or Come on a Cone right?

As a stan, I've mentioned plenty of times in here that I do not like the song. Does that make it a bad song? No. it's just not the type of music I like from Nicki . A lot of stans seem to genuinely like it but there are a few of us who aren't fans of it. I grew to love the gritty, hardcore, and playful Nicki, so this song as a lead single threw me off.
As far as the sound of the 1st single, I wasn't expecting anything on the lines of the songs you mentioned. I was expecting, more-so wanting, something on the lines of ChiRaq, LAN, and YB. With her releasing those as buzz tracks, I pretty much knew she would be releasing something with cross-over appeal as the first single.
With that being said, I think we'll be in for a treat with single #2.

You have a point and perhaps she learned from the Missy situation. Regardless, PnP and TPP are her main focus right now.

What Missy situation? I thought they were cool.
