But it's easy to see how Dawn's comments could still be valid even if they are signed.
It's clear they released "Lemonade" independently and up til this point have been pushing it themselves. If they got signed, say, last week, a label would not have had sufficient time to devise a plan to push it. They may decide not to push it at all and come up with a different plan/song to push altogether.
Whatever the case, I've chosen to look at "Lemonade" as their promotion song. From how it sounds, to the buzz it received, to the initial good numbers on iTunes, I feel they'll use it as part of leveraging the deal they want from a label. Same if they roll out a hot video and push it themselves. I mean didn't Dawn push her vids as far as 106 & Park independently?
I'm not sure I agree with it and am slightly annoyed that they seem to be being picky with deals. For a "girl group", they are risky because, to an exec who doesn't care how well they dance, sing, or harmonise, the fact is that they aren't....girls. They are grown women and all nearly 30 or already there. So, the way I look at it, why hold out for all a major % of nothing when you can have a small/decent % of SOMETHING with a major label.
Saying that, it's clear having no money from their past deals was THE main issue before and they don't want to enter into another sh*tty situation again...especially in today's era of of 360 deals. I'm just scared that going "indie" might not be much better.
Sorry for the essay! I'm a geek for these label contractual ish and LOVE me some DK and want them to win.
