As a user of ATRL do you think the rules are too strict or are you happy with them? I've only recently started to lurk ATRL and post randomly, I find myself being collecting warning points EVERY time I post and the only way I can fault my posts is that they can sometimes be a tad abrasive but this is the internet and not kindergarten and I think if you're signed up to a site that is fueled by late teens & older mostly dominated by gay men you should be allowed to swear, lets be for real.. every one of us has either seen a tit or own a pair so I don't understand why they need to be censored on here, I'd understand if it was full blown anal **** but a nipple doesn't blow my mind. If you misunderstand this thread as some sort of rant because of warning points then you're mistaken because I find it hard to fit in on this forum, i'm more of a popoverdose user so It's not a cry for them to be removed, i'm genuinely intrigued because I feel like I can't properly be myself on a forum that has so many strict rules. this is pop music, not catholic school.

No they are fine as they are. I like that ATRL has guidelines so we don't all become messy and needlessly insulting. It's immature and doesn't help discussion at all.

We actually recently had a poll in preparation for the site upgrade and they asked whether or not the rules were too strict etc so there might be some chances coming.

At the end of the day it isn't a huge deal though. You learn what you can and can't get away with saying after a while and it stops being a problem.

Sometimes I think they are too strict but I've realized they are completed fine the way they are because some users are way too messy, and it'd just turn into a disgusting environment which would make all the good members leave.

I would guess that those saying it is too strict are the ones who get a lot of warning points.

Just don't act messy and you'll be fine.

and tbh atrl isnt that strict. i know a lot more forums that power trip and give WPs for the stupidest things (not having 10 words at least per post )

Too strict, people need to grow up, if people are actually SERIOUSLY offended by 3/4 of the things I've been reported for, and think it's ok to go crying to "mommy and daddy" (the mods) and expect me to be punished for it, I can't imagine how they are going to deal with the realities of the real world. Put on your big girl panties and toughen up, sis.

There needs to be better oversight over when WPs are dispensed, at the very least. One person's trolling is another person's apt observation.

This is a rule that is clearly defined, and not open to interpretation. It would be hard for a mod to abuse handing out WPs for that rule.

You get reported for something silly on here and a mod can slap any title they want on it - trolling, flamebait, abrasive, crumpetfart, etc. and hand you a WP just because they don't like you or don't like your fave or don't like your avatar, or any number of reasons. It's ridiculous.

It's fine as is. You learn what you can and can't get away with. Really not that big of a deal. It could be a lot worse.

I think it's fine mostly. People that say you get reported for anything are posting flamebait comments so it's totally their own fault. I haven't got a WP in months because I don't act like an idiot. Stop blaming the mods for your own actions. And people wanting to post sexual things - this is a music forum, go to tumblr or something for that.

What people need to learn is that not everyone is required to like the people like, and that those who dislike a person are allowed to express that dislike.

I disagree. It's not about being offended. The rules are not in place so we don't get our feelings hurt. It's so that stupid and immature things are not posted, clogging up the forum, taking away from real discussion and angering people to the point of retaliating with just as childish a response as was given. You know you've seen it. One stan is messy to a popstar and then that base goes off and gets messy on that person/their fave. It's not mature and it's annoying to have to sift through that.

It's not really about toughening up. It's about growing up.

But when warning points for such childishness spill over to the point where people get warned for giving a rational critique about why they dislike an artist, there's a problem.
