People/children aren't animals kept alive with only food and medicine.
Giving free food is only useful for disaster relief. In long term it destroys the local economy because they can't compete with free food and makes populations dependent on us.
It is not limited to high-profile projects in exotic far away places. There is poverty, people in need in your own city/country too.
Katy was poor too, missed a lot of formal education
(those bible belt "schools" had other agendas) and don't want children being snubbed of education.
Education is expensive.
