What I mean is that, while Gaga directly used theatricality to aid success, Adele used it indirectly. People loved her conventional image simply because they were tired of the theatricality.

Without pop culture being so oversaturated with people 'dressing like maniacs', she would not have received a fraction of the success.

It's great that you admit Gaga's "shock tactics" contributed to her success but you thinking adele did so well because she dressed in a conventional manner, if people were tired of the theatrics why didn't Gaga flop during that period?
Adele sold off her music alone, nothing else.
