Livvi Franc: Barbados' 3rd Musical Gem
That's right guys. There's another Bajan songstress on the rise. Livvi Franc and she's signed to Jive Records. Her first single is 'Free' and it's to be released in the UK first. I love this bitch so much more than I did the rest initially because she went to my school AND she was my neighbour. How ****ing cool is that? Lol.
Quote:
IN the last three days top executives from US music label Jive Records, a full team of talented experts and top video director Laurent Briet have been working on the first music video for local singer Livvi Franc.
The teen pop singer - born Olivia Waithe - was signed to Jive Records, since then she has been working steadily on her first album. Also on hand for the shoot was Jeff Fenster, Senior Vice-President of Zomba Music Group and Jive Records who is also Livvi's A&R executive for Jive.
Fenster has a long list of accomplishments. From 1992-1999, he was Head of Artist & Repertoire at Jive Records during the years in which the label rose to become the largest and by far most successful independently owned label in the world. Jeff signed and worked with all the label's superstar artists, including Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, R. Kelly, A Tribe Called Quest, Mystikal and Joe.
Jeff left Jive in 1999 to head up A&R for Island Def Jam Records, where during his five years there, he led the creative team that quadrupled the combined company's market share in just over three years. He also personally signed top pop/rock groups Fallout Boy and The Killers. Having returned to Jive as Senior VP of A&R for the entire Zomba Label Group, Fenster is now throwing his considerable expertise behind Livvi.
Local singer 'fresh' and 'talented'
Calling Franc very "fresh", he states that her music has a global appeal, something the label is looking to maximise by launching her both in the UK and US markets. "We have actually made a very unusual arrangement with them where we are both involved in the project. We are going to start the project in England and 'Free' will be the first single there".
"Livvi has the ability which American artists frankly dont have, especially more urban artists to make an impact in the UK and European market as well. That is why we are confident to market her in a global way".
Another local artist who has made a global impact is Rihanna and Fenster noted that some comparisons will inevitably be made between the two. However, he told the Barbados Advocate that he does not see this as detrimental in any way to Livvi's burgeoning career. "We certainly expect that Livvi as a beautiful, young woman coming from Barbados there are bound to be some comparisons. But the wonderful thing is they are each their own person and the music is different. Livvis music will make her stand on her own from any artist who is from the same place or a different place".
The single "Free" is set to be released in late October and the video shortly thereafter. Fenster revealed that Livvi worked with several top writers and producers including Cathy Dennis, who wrote Toxic for Britney Spears, "I Kissed a Girl" for Katy Perry; and producer JR Rotem, who has produced for The Game, Destinys Child, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Snoop Dogg, and Lindsay Lohan.
Director of the video Laurent Briet utilised several diverse locations around the island, including the Flower Forest in St. Joseph, Barkenai Bar in Christ Church and a local studio in the heart of the City.
