Please tell me it looks better on the DS screen The screen caps of it look horrible.
It looked okay at the time it was released
Literally everyone owned a DS though, so there was always some friend to play with. I remember literally my whole class but one kid bringing their DS to school and we went playing Mario Kart during the breaks

We all had Mario Kart 64 on our iPad's during year 12 It was the best.
I had a DS but could never afford Mario DS games since they were like $70 each.
I can't really pick a favorite Mario Kart as they all were great. I have a lazy habit of not persevering with the handheld Mario Kart's though.
If I HAD to chose one from the top of my head it'd be Mario Kart: Super Circuit. I was about 10 - 12 when it was released and because of that age when you become a very attached fan to the Nintendo franchise I got very hyped about it and remember taking it everywhere with me.
However on a more professional view, the game did have the best tracks. They were initiative and original and the music was also a standout point of the game.
If I had to rank from the top of my head (right now) it'd go like this.
