The best selling Tomb Raider games in the franchise released PRIOR to Angelina taking her role as Lara (the reboot is the best selling TR game since the ORIGINAL TR1/TR2).
After the first few games, it went downhill with each game (both critically and commercially IIRC). Angelina definitely helped or arguably was the sole reason Lara Croft become a household name by holding the Tomb Raider films together (loved her in the films, tbh) and probably helped the Tomb Raider game franchise on it's last legs before it crumbled and Crystal took over but I don't think she really contributes to the reboot's success. There was a reason it needed rebooting in the first place (gotta credit them for getting 8 TR games prior to the reboot, though

).

Prior to THIS reboot, the franchise was only rebooted once and it wasn't really on the scale of this (hence why I'm skeptical of even calling it a reboot, it pretty much felt like the old TR's with better graphics with a few changes). They just tried to focus on what made Tomb Raider great instead of that mess Core Design did with Angel of Darkness.
