Artists would release a video version, per say, a remix alternate version with a epic dance breakdown. Or it's just an original song, no remix, with a breakdown. These would eventually be on their CD's, but also have the original version. I don't know them all but some at the top of my head include:
Pretty much every Jennifer Lopez video, but here's one.
If You Had My Love
Janet Jackson
Doesn't Really Matter
Samantha Mumba
Baby Come On Over
Mandy Moore
In My Pocket
Christina Aguilera
Come On Over (Baby All I Want Is You)
Britney Spears
Overprotected (Dark Child Remix)
Pussycat Dolls
Buttons (Remix)
Backstreet Boys
Everybody
NSync
Pop
>>>> Although I'm sure there are tons of more. I thought Destiny's Child , Shakira or Mya would have one too. But songs today barely have any epic breakdowns anymore. What happened?!
Back when music videos were exciting, had dancing, and weren't filled with tacky product placement. People used to actually care and have fun. Now it's too much of a business.
I think back then there was more distinctiveness, everyone had their own shtick and nobody was really 'generic' and labels actually invested in everybody but now you have to cater to one kinda audience and everybody's **** is very similar and/or one trend is followed.

this
also i think TRL had an effect on artists wanting to create good music videos.
even musicians from that era who are still around dont put that kind of effort in their videos anymore
Pop music became basic when pop artists started making dance pop songs. The new generation of pop stars followed this trend and they fail completely. That's why artists like Rita Ora or Jessie J will never become as big as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Britney and Rihanna have become. Simply because the music they make sucks and is generic as hell. And that's also the reason why there hasn't been a new big pop girl since Adele.
I mean just look at Jessie J's latest album. Every song sounds like a song that's already been made a year ago. Waste of talent and opportunity, because she's a talented singer.

I've been saying this for the past few years, everyone in music used to have their own style but now it seems like everyone just wants to hop on the latest trend.
