But can't these artists transition to Adult Contemporary, Easy Listening and Throwback stations? To say that ALL of radio won't play them is ridiculous. There are stations that specifically target older audiences who would be familiar with these artists they have grown up with. It's just Top 40 radio that focuses on kids/teens.

This is stupid though because older artists have the maturity to make better hits that mean more and relate to more people. And it's not even like they're playing younger artists like 14 - 18. They only play this small window of 19 - 28 excluding the unusual exceptions like Lorde or Justin Bieber a few years ago.

True, those stations will be more likely to play them, but you're missing the point.

They're working on the assumption that older artists' new songs won't appeal to younger audiences AT ALL, so Top 40 shouldn't bother playing them. That's a problem, IMO.

I agree with them. If you're over 50, you should pack your bags and leave it to younger artists to have their shot at success.

Nobody complains about TV channels programming for demographics.

Radio is no different.
