She said the album tells a story, so here's what I get from it.

- Cruel World and Ultraviolence document the end of her relationship with Jim.

- Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby and Black Beauty are about meeting Barrie and dealing with his depression. I included Black Beauty here because it probably would be put here if on the standard tracklist.

- West Coast is about how she sought after fame and moved away from everyone in search of it. (It has a weird placement though.)

- Sad Girl is about her leaving her days of being a mistress and playing around behind because she loves Barrie.

- Pretty When You Cry, I think at least, is actually supposed to be Barrie speaking to Lana, and that's why the title and the chorus don't match up.

- Money Power Glory and FMWUTTT I think are just Lana poking fun at the stereotypes people have about her.

- Old Money is obviously Lana speaking to Barrie about how much she loves him, and even though he's insecure she will always run back to him and be there when he needs her.

- The Other Woman is a song I'm confused about. Has Barrie cheated on Lana and that's why she included it as the closing track? Anyone have any thoughts on why it's included?

- I think the other bonus tracks are just songs Lana has written that didn't fit into the narrative but she still liked so she included them on deluxe.

Obviously this is just my interpretations and I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this

Emile gave us some of the best songs of her carrer on BTD!! (OTTR, SS, G&M...) which I think you used to say some of them were you favourite songs!
Sure he has flaws like those repetitive samples and sounds but we can't deny that without him BTD wouldn't have sounded the same at all!
I mean can you imagine if Dan worked on OTTR...

I was thinking about how much talent she has She basically mantained her style in this record while doing something completely different She just made the perfect sophomore album. She would've been so predictable if she did another record of trip hop/hip hop ballads. I LOVE HER

I'm hoping for a Jazz-Funk/Alternative mix for her next album.

Part of me wants him again because he is one of the absolute best producers rigjt now but I also want her to always try something new.But either way I'm sure she'll make a great decision.

Yeah, I know that, I just wondered why she had chosen that over a plethora of songs she could've covered for this. She must have felt a certain attachment to the song.

Haynie was a good pick for the producer of BTD but to be fair Haynie also butchered songs like Yayo, Diet Mtn Dew and TIWMUG or WY or Lolita. These songs would have been way better if somebody else produced them.
He was a hit or a miss and she also expressed some dissatisfaction with the production on the album. And Lana just grew out of his sound. When her next record comes out she will be most likely 30 years old, a mature, grown woman.

Any word on when we can expect Shades of Cool and Ultraviolence's videos? Where is the good sis LDRO at with the tea?

I just hope she doesn't join the 27 Club...
