Those iTunes receipts don't say much. If they did, That's What Makes You Beautiful would be the most iconic song of 2012 since it's charting in the most countries out of all songs released within that year when in reality no one above the age of 30 knows that song. Party Rock Anthem is more known than RITD. More global, etc.

@JakeKills I feel like they are way more songs that get more recurrent airplay than Viva La Vida though that were released within the same time period. In that regard it can't compete with Don't Stop Believin.

I mean, Adele didn't even have the best selling female song of the year (that honor went to On The Floor despite the fact that RITD had the advantage of being released earlier hihi).
