Because she hasn't had anything in her music endeavors that allows her to stand out. She lacks risk or ambition.

She's gained 5-10 points with every album. That means she'll be in the 80s in three or four albums time!

Her albums aren't profound or special in terms of abilities as a musician. As an entertainer whose sole purpose is to make #1s Katy will always be acknowledged for her success.

No but it is common knowledge that ARTPOP is hated on. The difference is that PRISM is the expectation for Katy, while ARTPOP (which was the same score) was really several steps backwards for Gaga.

Critics don't favor her though because honestly, her music isn't innovative. It really doesn't bring anything new to the table.

No offense but One of the Boys and PRISM are good albums. PRISM deserves it's metascore and, well, OOTB I can't understand.

Critics don't like her image and her music isn't super innovative.

Anyways, she's improving. A lot of critics trashed TD, and their lukewarm attitude towards PRISM is a much better improvement.

The critics also dislike her voice, though I (usually) don't mind it.
