The books just weren't trying to turn Sandor/Arya into a buddy cop show with the hard-ass soldier and his wisecracking partner with a thirst for vengeance. I appreciate both, but book Arya is much less trusting, much less kill happy, and much more scarred, which makes sense for a girl whose close proximity to both of her parents dying is only one of many traumas. The show dynamic is fun to watch, but the novels' is much more believable, in my opinion.
