to anyone that thinks BTW was a flop. There has yet to be an era from the current wave of pop girls to match it (closest would be Katy with ha two numbers ones. And even the trajectory of that album is mirroring BTW in an eerie way..).

I wouldn't really pay much attention what ATRL says about "flops" and such. Cher's career has had more ups and downs than a Kardashian on a stripper pole, but she's still a legend, and everyone on ATRL and in the GP knows it.

No, but really. Born This Way wasn't a bad era, but the trajectory leading down from TFM to BTW was more revealing, because the diminishing returns showed that her fanbase were the main ones checking for her, with some additional support from the general population.

However, not all fans are equally loyal, so the diminishing returns from Born This Way to ARTPOP showed that a good number of people happened to jump ship for various reasons. Whether it was that the music didn't appeal to them anymore, or she just wasn't as successful anymore, or even something else entirely, is determined on an individual basis. Applause being a moderate success shows that not everyone in the general public utterly despises her, like many here seem to think.

Random query but I'm just not really interested in making a thread about it. Even if, say, Gaga never recovers and just has 500k-2 million albums for the rest of her career.. how does that undo her previous successes? The Fame is one of the highest selling albums of all time. Or even Born This Way? Likewise, if Adele doesn't match the same sales as 21, I am sure people here will join the hate bandwagon and claim she had "no impact." Sales are sales are facts which are always remembered and documented. Is Cyndi Lauper less an icon because she never surpassed her first hit? Of course not!

How does faltering make you have "less impact" when no one can even match you since? Clearly you aren't forgotten. This website and their measure of impact and only looking at what is current and ignoring the past.

Very true, I said this earlier too that on here everyone uses current success as a measure of overall success which really doesn't really make much sense in the long run. I'm assuming that they saw the down trend from TFM to BTW and assumed that meant she was over. But then again even the TFM > BTW down trend depends on how you look at it. It's sales aren't technically distinguishable as one unit due to the repackage WW and the standalone in the US. Just depends on how you look at it. 6-7m WW is by no means a flop, even if you consider TFM being sold at 14m. I kind of wish the people here saw some Jpop artists trajectories

Not everyone in the GP hates her. Actually, a lot of artistic people I've met really appreciate her. But honestly, it's always the "different" people who love her, people with quirky personalities as well. Average people that love clubbing and have boring personalities or what I can "normal" people usually hate her or think she's too crazy. I love how polarizing she actually is.

That's true, I think the only thing that'll ever really "fix" that are hit singles and image revamps. As long as she doesn't do anything that is horrendous she should be fine.
