Mariah Carey has written and co produced every single song in her discography since her second record was released.

Katy Perry won't ever be able to get 200 mil+ in album sales.

Butterfly influenced the change in Pop/R&B and is her most cleverly written work to date. Nothing on that album is cliche. Also, I doubt Katy will create anything as groundbreaking as the "Fantasy" remix featuring O.D.B. (RIP btw).

Mariah has a Christmas classic that will live on until the end of time. And let me not even get started on the amount of CLASSICS Mariah has at her disposal.

Also, she had probably the greatest voice of all time at one point, at least in my opinion.

So they both have strong successful singles but why do we always have to compare someone to someone else? It's stupid. Coming from a fan of both artists.

Not to mention Fantasy, which most pop girls try to replicate with a) the sound and b) the pop girl/rapper combo.

Mariah changed music. Look at how urban music has been 'in' for like what... since the late 90s/early 2000s now? If it wasn't for Mariah it would not be that way. #FACTSONLY

Neither Butterfly or TEOM are classics, most people haven't heard of those albums or the songs on them. We Belong Together being #11 on the US all-time track chart but not being on the all time world chart at all shows just how local Mariah has been for most of her career. Even if her albums sold well worldwide in the 90s, they're very much forgotten now. They only sold well because they were MOR rnb sung by someone with an amazing voice which wasn't controversial or provocative, but at this cost she had to risk being forgettable to a worldwide audience.

Also it's interesting how music box's certified units come under 20 million yet its claimed sales are over 30 million...

Exactly that whole having a rapper feat started because of Mariah, she influenced everybody but of course as always ATRL tries to take that away from her and compare her with less worthy artists.

Almost all The Beatles' studio albums, Velvet Underground's debut, Led Zeppelin's first 4 albums, Pink Floyd's Dark side..., King Crimson's debut, The Beach Boys's Pet Sound, The Smiths' The Queen is Dead, The Clash's London Calling , Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Radiohead's Ok Computer... That's just some on top of my head. These are the albums that really changed music and still maintain a huge following after all these years , they deserve to be called Classics. Not some albums sold on the hype of the artist at one time and be completely forgotten after a few years.

I mean the Backstreet Boys' Millennium sold 40 million copies Enough said.
